Our Story

bccaWe are the hub of Black Creek! The Black Creek Community Centre is fueled by the hard work and passion of Black Creekers. Did you know we are one of the few community centre on Vancouver Island run by a non-profit society? This is something to be proud of, considering Black Creek has enjoyed a highly-successful community centre since 1958. It began with fund-raising to purchase ten acres of land. After a few years, we moved the old Grantham School on to our property, and created the first “Black Creek Community Hall”. Today, after many expansions, we have become the cultural and recreational centre of Black Creek.

We offer a large hall and covered deck perfect for indoor and outdoor events such as weddings and meetings. This includes a full kitchen/bar and BBQ area. We are surrounded by ten acres of field and forested trails, and on most mornings you can hear the local roosters crow! In this beautiful setting, we provide children programs and host the Pumpkin Patch Preschool. A huge component of our community centre is our extremely popular fitness programs, outdoor courts, baseball field, and fully-equipped gym. We offer a full schedule of workshops on everything from yogurt-making and tree-pruning, to stained glass making and gluten-free baking. The Black Creek Community Centre is home to our community’s fantastic monthly events such as the Annual Outdoor Easter Egg Hunt, the Christmas Craft Market, and the hugely popular fall Community Fall Fair.

Black Creek Community Centre is made up of volunteers! Our governing body is our board of directors, where we make monthly decisions on thing like finances, staffing, facility maintenance, and strategic planning (where we want the centre to go, and how we want to get there). Our mission is to meet the recreational needs of Black Creek. We rely on many working committees to get stuff done. We have committees for marketing, membership, community fair, etc. Do you have a special talent or passion for something? Chances are, there’s a committee for you! The Black Creek Community Centre is a great place to make a contribution and get engaged with your community.
